Police in Austin were able to identify a suspect in a fatal stabbing that occurred outside a bar on Austin’s Sixth Street.

A witness recorded the fight with his phone, and later uploaded the video to Snapchat. Additionally, police found surveillance video from a nearby business, which showed the fight.
It is unknown if the suspect had been drinking at a nearby bar before the stabbing. If it should be discovered that alcohol did play a role in the fight, then the bar that served the suspect could face “dramshop liability” in a civil lawsuit by the family of the deceased person. Under Texas law, a bar or restaurant that served alcoholic beverages can be held legally liable if they provide alcohol to a person who is obviously intoxicated, and that intoxication results in injury or death.
